About GIF to PDF

Combines GIF images into a PDF. One limitation needs saying first: an animated GIF contributes only its first frame.

A PDF page is static and the format has no animation support, so however many frames the source has, only the first reaches the PDF. If your GIF is a reaction image or an animation, check before converting that the first frame is the one you want — plenty of animations open on a blank or transitional frame.

GIF also has two inherent limits: at most 256 colours, so photographic content banding badly, and edges that are either fully transparent or fully opaque with nothing in between, so feathered edges turn jagged. The format decides this; the conversion cannot change it.

So when is it useful? Charts, diagrams, screenshots of older interfaces, and archiving reaction images — content that was already low-colour. Those convert and read fine, and are easier to bundle into an archive. For print or anything formal, find the original lossless version instead.

Frequently asked questions

My animated GIF stopped moving in the PDF?

PDF has no animation support and keeps only the first frame. That is a format limit, not a conversion error.

The colours look worse after converting?

GIF caps at 256 colours, so photographic content already bands. Converting does not degrade it further — it carries the banding across as-is.

Why are the edges jagged?

GIF supports only fully transparent or fully opaque pixels, no partial alpha, so feathered edges become hard. Use PNG for smooth edges.

Is this suitable for archiving reaction images?

Yes, as long as you accept they become static first frames. If you need the motion preserved, PDF is the wrong container.
