About PDF to Images
Render every page of a PDF into an image, PNG or JPG, at one of three resolutions. Rendering goes through pdf.js, the same engine inside the Firefox reader, so layout comes out close to the original.
Three resolutions
Standard is about 96 DPI, fine for screens and previews. Sharper is about 144 DPI and is the default, good enough for small prints. High is about 216 DPI with crisper text edges, at several times the file size. An A4 page at 216 DPI lands around 1800 by 2500 pixels.
It takes a moment, but nothing leaves the browser
Pages render one at a time on the main thread, so a long document means a wait, and the browser may warn that the page is unresponsive. It is working, not stuck. Nothing is uploaded, which also means there is no upload progress to watch.
When not to use it
Scans come out exactly as sharp as the original, since they were images to begin with. Text PDFs, on the other hand, lose selectable text once rasterised. If you need the words, look for a text extraction tool instead.
Frequently asked questions
Is the background white?
Yes. The canvas is filled white before rendering, so JPGs never come out with a black background.
Can I select text in the images?
No. The output is pixels; the words have become shapes.
Why is it slow?
Each page renders on the main thread, so page count and resolution both drive the time. Split long documents into batches.
Can I convert only some pages?
Yes, type 1-3,5 in the page box. Leave it empty for all pages.
Is the file uploaded?
No. pdf.js renders locally and everything is released when you close the page.
