EXIF Viewer

JPEG from a phone or camera — read in the browser, never uploaded
Reads the Exif block inside a JPEG: camera, lens, exposure, time, GPS. Photos sent through WeChat or other chat apps are usually re-compressed with the metadata stripped — if nothing shows up but the file is a JPEG, that is why. HEIC from recent iPhones stores it differently and is not read here.
About EXIF Viewer
Drop a JPEG from a phone or camera and read what it recorded: camera and lens, aperture, shutter, ISO, focal length, capture time, orientation, original dimensions, and — when present — GPS with a link to a map.
When nothing shows up, it is almost always one of three things:
- Photos forwarded through chat apps are re-compressed, and the metadata is dropped in the process. What you have is a cleaned image with no Exif left
- Screenshots never carry Exif
- HEIC from recent iPhones stores it in a different container; this tool reads the APP1 segment of a JPEG only
This is really a privacy tool. Send an original photo and the GPS coordinates, capture time and device model travel with it — people have been located at home through a picture posted on a forum. Checking what is inside before posting is easier than trying to remove it afterwards.
Treat the values as approximate: GPS is a fix from the moment of capture, possibly coarse (tens of metres off), and sometimes missing entirely when reception was poor. The Orientation tag says how the image should be rotated for viewing; most viewers apply it silently, which is why what you see may not match the raw value here.
Parsing happens in the browser; the photo is not uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
Why is nothing showing?
Usually the photo was re-compressed by a chat app and the metadata was dropped; screenshots never have it; HEIC stores it in another container.
Can it remove Exif?
This tool only reads. Re-export through the image compressor or converter (canvas re-encoding drops Exif), or take a screenshot.
Does the GPS show where the photo was taken?
It is the fix at the moment of capture, usually coarse and tens of metres off; with poor reception there may be none at all.
RAW, PNG or HEIC?
Only the Exif block of a JPEG is parsed. RAW formats differ per vendor and HEIC uses another container.
Is the photo uploaded?
No, parsing happens in the browser.
