About Image Converter
Pick an image, or drag one into the dashed box, or paste it with Ctrl+V. Choose the output format and the new file is ready.
The conversion runs on the browser's canvas: the image is decoded, redrawn onto a canvas, and encoded again in the target format. All of it happens locally, so the original never reaches a server.
JPEG has no alpha channel, so converting a transparent PNG fills the background with white first; otherwise the transparent area comes out black. WebP encoding works in Chrome, Edge and Firefox. Older Safari cannot do it and the page says which format you actually got instead.
You can also resize on the way through: enter a longest edge and the image scales proportionally, which is handy for getting a large photo under an upload limit.
Frequently asked questions
Why did the file get bigger?
Usually a JPEG converted to PNG. PNG is lossless and poor at compressing photographs. Convert to WebP instead, or lower the JPEG quality.
Where did my transparency go?
JPEG has no alpha channel. Output PNG or WebP if you need it kept.
What happens to animated GIFs?
Only the first frame is used, so the animation is lost. This tool does not convert animations.
Is the image uploaded?
No. The canvas does the work locally and the memory is released when you close the page.
